Feng Shui decoration is based on the idea that our homes are a mirror of what’s happening inside us. It aims to align your environment with who you are as a person and to harmonize your energy with that of your home. Feng Shui based on ancient Chinese philosophy and is closely linked with Taoism.
You might wonder if this particular trend is something you want to try, especially in Nigeria.
Since the entire idea behind Feng Shui is to align your home with self, your decor and home arrangement would have to reflect what you want in your life. Which means, if you’re hoping to find love, your home decor would have to gravitate towards this.
There’re a few rules that guide Feng Shui decoration such as storing creative energy within your space. This means, in your office, you wouldn’t put your desk facing the window but rather, you’ll have it facing the room so when you sit to work, creative energy remains within the home.
In the same vein, you wouldn’t put your bed directly across a door as this is considered bad luck.
But, Feng Shui goes deeper than that, the decoration is not just about who you are but also who you want to be. It entails keeping positivity in and negativity out. Everyone would literally like to do this, and what’s wrong with altering your space to reflect who you want to be?
This means that your house will literall be divided in sections with each denoting certain aspects of your life E.g. Relationship room, Happiness kitchen.
Some other deeper aspects of Feng Shui decoration also involve using a Bagua map over the floor of your home. The Bagua is an octagon with each side representing different aspects of life with the center representing health.
Now Nigerians don’t believe in these sort of things, but on closer analysis, don’t we all apply a bit of Feng Shui when decorating our homes? We decorate with our favourite colours, art works, and pictures and heirlooms that we cherish.
The use of Feng Shui in home decoration is gaining popularity in some countries around the world and Nigerians have been known to adopt weirder trends.
A problem Nigerians might have with the concept of fengshui is its extremity and the spiritual science surrounding it might be regarded as superstition.
It cannot be categorically said if Feng Shui is good to go in Nigeria or not though a lot of people are not even aware of it. However, If you think this is something you would like to experiment, then go for it.
